There is power to be gained by replacing the stock header, mid-pipe and muffler. Just pulling out the packing is not a very good idea. It is also not a great idea to put any old muffler on the back. Mufflers have been specifically tuned to the bike they will fit. Also remember to rejet the carb after fitting a new pipe.
There are a variety of pipes to choose from in Taiwan. I got mine from WL motors. I chose to buy mine there because they have dyno tested pipes and mufflers while designing them to find the best performance for your choice and style directly on this model of bike.
Original
The header and mid-pipe have excessive curvature in them and the muffler is very restrictive.

Tuned
The header and mid-pipe have less curvature in them so that the flow is less obstructed and the muffler is less restrictive.

The variety of mufflers are tuned for acceleration or for higher speed cruising. These pipes have the added benefit of no longer cooking you number plate like the originals do.
I went with the shorter single titanium for acceleration.
My friend went with the dual pipe for cruising and to look cool. Be warned that if you go this route you run the risk of the tire touching the exhaust if the shock is compressed by jumping or heavy loads.
This is another inexpensive way to get more from your bike.
